Storyrock: Newer Gated Homes Beside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve
What is Storyrock like?
Storyrock is a newer gated master-planned community in northeast Scottsdale, set right alongside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. It's built for people who love the outdoors, with more than half the land kept as open space and wildlife corridors, and Tom's Thumb Trailhead a short walk away. Homes are newer, single-family and built by well-known national builders.
Where is Storyrock located?
Storyrock sits near 128th Street and Ranch Gate Road in North Scottsdale, a short drive east of Pima Road and Happy Valley Road. Homes carry Scottsdale, AZ 85255 addresses. The main entrance gate is on Ranch Gate Road just east of 128th Street, with additional gates off Alameda Road. It's close to Troon North, Pinnacle Peak, Estancia and Desert Highlands.
What kinds of homes are in Storyrock?
Storyrock covers roughly 462 acres at completion, with phased plans for up to 443 homes. Lot sizes range from about a third of an acre to more than an acre. Builders have included Shea Homes, David Weekley Homes, Taylor Morrison and Toll Brothers, with gated enclaves inside the community, such as Shea's Reserves and Signature neighborhoods and Toll Brothers at Storyrock. Expect modern open floor plans, many single-level, in desert contemporary, modern ranch and Spanish-inspired styles. Floor plans vary by builder and collection, so I'll help you compare what's available now. See more on new construction in North Scottsdale.
What amenities does Storyrock offer?
Storyrock's main amenity is the desert itself. The community runs alongside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, which has more than 150 miles of trails, and Tom's Thumb Trailhead is close enough to walk to. Inside the gates you'll find maintained common areas and natural wildlife corridors. There's no golf course inside Storyrock, but Troon North and other clubs are nearby. Compare options on my golf community living page.
Is Storyrock gated, and is there an HOA?
Yes. Storyrock is gated, and some neighborhoods inside it have their own secondary gates. There is a master HOA that covers the entry and common areas, and some enclaves may have their own association too. I'll confirm current dues for any home you're considering.
Which schools serve Storyrock?
Storyrock is served by Cave Creek Unified School District, with Sonoran Trails Middle School and Cactus Shadows High School in the typical pathway. Elementary assignment can depend on the address, so confirm with the district.
What's nearby for dining, shopping and trails?
Trails are the big draw, from Tom's Thumb to the wider McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Pinnacle Peak Park, the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, and the restaurants around Pinnacle Peak Road are all a quick drive. Shopping and services in DC Ranch and Grayhawk are within easy reach.
Who is Storyrock a good fit for?
Storyrock fits hikers, bikers and anyone who wants a newer, gated home with the preserve as their backyard. It's a strong match for families and move-up buyers who want modern construction and space, without giving up access to North Scottsdale's dining and shopping. Relocating?
